We recommend using 18 Gauge Underground Wire in the installation of these underground dog fences.

Use 20 Gauge Underground if:

  • For loose, sandy soil
  • The yard has little vegetation
  • The wire will be buried in low traffic areas

Use 18 Gauge Underground if:

  • For rocky soil
  • The yard has a lot of vegetation in it
  • The wire will be buried in high traffic areas
  • Owners will not be installing the wire underground
Remember, even a small break in the underground wire will cause the underground fence system to fail. Owners cannot purchase underground fences with 18 Gauge Underground Wire at the local pet store, or through pet supply catalogs. Owners can only get 18 Gauge Underground Wire through a select few internet retailers.
